The Brexit Crisis Finally Engulfs the Party That Started It
A stinging and accurate assessment of Brexit and the growing crisis we’re facing. It doesn’t mention that Vote leave and BeLeave are under investigation for election over spending. It does say what the commentariat in this country are not, that “with both major political parties in the U.K. in terminal disarray, its government on the verge of collapse, and its relationship with Europe tainted, that Russian money is looking ever more well-spent.”
Think about that for a moment. Russian money bought the referendum. All of the xenophobic rhetoric of the Brexit campaign was used to hide a strategy that will seed control of this country to either Russian money or American multinationals. Trump isn’t under investigation for collusion with Russia for nothing. We need clarity. We need to press pause on Article 50 and have another general election. That election needs to be framed as an in or out vote on Europe. The Tories have made their position very clear. Labour needs to back remain. What is the alternative, stumble eyes open into economic oblivion. Cost of living in this country is already high. It will be unliveable should we go to WTO rules. Labour’s strategy has been to let the Tories implode. Labour now needs to step up and offer a real alternative.
The number of private renters all over England has risen from 11% to 28% since 2001.
Why has this happened? Because successive governments since Thatcher have turned social housing into crisis housing. People have been forced into the private sector to be exploited by landlords and agents alike.
The stock is there. We need a radical rethink on how we used it. Like a licensing for landlords, so unscrupulous landlords can be banned from exploiting people and renting slums. Like rent control, so rents are kept in the reach of average incomes. Like a ten or fifteen year tenancy agreement, so people can put down roots without worrying about having to move in six months or a year. I have the feeling even that wouldn’t be enough. So we need to come up with even more radical solutions. Like forcing people and companies who “ghost” homes to rent them or face massive fines. Like stopping multiple home ownership. Like restricting home ownership to British citizens. Like enshrining in law a citizens right to a decent place to live. The wealth is there. Have it used for the good of the many not the befit of the few.
Would there be an imperative to conform?
Just think about this for a moment. The models of contemporary life, its institutions, the language, every interaction and relationship, would change.
Would there be an imperative to conform? Would we be drones in a self-perpetuating machine? What am I saying, we already do, conform, we already are, drones.
Bigger question, would we care? If our basic needs are met, then the power structures that control us, propel us through contemporary life, would melt away.
Also consider who is saying this, the World Economic Forum. The WEF “is mostly known for its annual meeting at the end of January in Davos” that “brings together some 3,000 paying members and selected participants – among whom are investors, business leaders, political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists”.
Basically all those vested interests who benefit from most of us owning nothing, and having no privacy.

While I find the Swedes optimism towards this kind of technology refreshing, recent scandals around Facebook and Cambridge Analytica give me serious concerns about how this technology is used, or more specifically used against us.
