6 Underground (2019)

This took three goes to finish. It’s exhausting. A cacophony of fast talking dialogue, and high octane action, and massive city destroying explosions, that all works on a fairly superficial level. It’s a rollercoaster ride of good guys killing bad guys, as if Bond took a little blue pill and saw red. These aren’t criticisms of the film, just a warning to those who get motion sick. It’s pure multiplex popcorn fodder, designed to be watched and then forgotten. What I do have a problem with is the imperialist wish fulfilment that underpins the plot. American billionaire goes vigilante, enlists a small group of anarcho-misfits, then sets out to fix the world in his image. It’s problematic. But what d’you expect it’s a Michael Bay film. Apart from that it’s okay.
