Writing's a fight and this boy needs a battle
Livestream horror from Rob Savage, the talent responsible for the zoom horror Host (2020). This time pandemic panic gets a demonic twist with a visually bombastic, first person urgency, that’s reminiscent of Cloverfield (2008), but with interactive anarchy you see on TikTok. It is, as the poster claims, “creepy as fuck”.
A lockdown Zoom call does the impossible, and manages to hold my interest for an hour. A group of friends accidentally summon a demon when they perform a seance online. A tight script, and strong performances, make the most of the technical restriction. Strong enough to get director Rob Savage a three picture deal with Blumhouse Productions.
